In this current era of constant transfer talk and speculation within the ever-gossiping world of modern day football, it seemingly doesn’t take much for Liverpool Football Club to be linked with a vast array of high profile names from across Europe, as well as the subsequent hoard of inflated transfer fees that often follow suit.
Such a notion hardly comes as much of a surprise when we think about it though, as after spending a hefty £35 million on Andy Carroll, signing players such as Stewart Downing and Joe Allen for equally silly money, and finally splashing most of their much publicised Luis Suarez cash on a whole host of ill-fated transfers last summer – perhaps Liverpool should now expect to be taken for a ride during each passing transfer window.
However, even in such a troublingly turbulent climate for the Reds, one potential deal has cropped up in recent weeks that could certainly benefit Brendan Rodgers’ squad going into the new season…
Crystal Palace’s rapidly emerging Yannick Bolasie is the latest name to be linked with a high profile move to Anfield this summer – and although Alan Pardew has been quick in his efforts to derail the Merseysiders in their reported pursuit of his star man – could the 26-year-old winger actually represent the ideal transfer target for Liverpool ahead of the 2015/16 campaign?

The answer could well be, yes.
First things first though, before any real transfer activity is carried out by the Reds this summer, a solid centre-forward will simply have to be sourced above all else. Bolasie himself is much more of a wide-man than an out-in-out-striker, and as Liverpool are simply no closer to replacing the somewhat untouchable Luis Suarez since he departed the Premier League last July, Brendan Rodgers will have to act quickly this window to find a suitable striker to lead the charge for his side next season.
The fitness of Daniel Sturridge simply can’t be relied upon at the moment, and with Raheem Sterling likely to be on his way out the door at Anfield this summer – Liverpool need a reliable goal-scorer, and quickly.
Whilst Yannick Bolasie might not be the obvious transfer target for the Reds going into the new campaign however, the Selhurst Park favourite could certainly still offer Brendan Rodgers a great deal if the Liverpool boss were willing to take another gamble this summer.
When it comes to daring skills in the final third and sheer ambition on the ball, the Crystal Palace no. 7 really has been a joy to behold in recent seasons. Yes, he’s not the finished article by any means, and of course, the DR Congo international hardly represents the most reliable name that Liverpool could source this window – yet when it comes to entertaining the fans and providing a strong force in front of goal whilst doing so – there haven’t been many better than Yannick Bolasie in the Premier League this term.
The Lyon-born midfielder simply displays true confidence when given free rein to maraud forward and help his team attack the opposition. His mere four league goals this campaign may have admittedly gone down as a somewhat underwhelming output in truth, but when Bolasie’s overall game is fully taken into account, his future in English football really does seem to be going places. It could therefore be a wise move for Liverpool to become part of that next season.
The 26-year-old would not only fit in perfectly among the likes of stars such as Coutinho in the heart of Brendan Rodgers’ attack at Anfield, but he could also potentially become the link between Liverpool’s somewhat stagnant centre-midfielders and their often isolated front-men.
Having made such a case however, there is one factor within all of this that could ultimately end this potential transfer coup for the Reds almost as soon as it begun. In reportedly being brandished with a £20 million price tag above his head by the Crystal Palace hierarchy, any move for Yannick Bolasie from Liverpool this summer would certainly represent another huge gamble from the club.
As last season proved to be a period in which many similarly ambitious transfer moves dramatically failed to come off for the Reds, Brendan Rodgers’ side simply can’t keep hoping to hit the jackpot on one of their high profile targets without thinking about value for money. Lessons simply have to be learnt.
Yannick Bolasie may therefore represent a very exciting star for the Anfield fans to speculate upon this summer, but if their club seemingly have to break the bank in order to secure his services, such a high stakes gamble should ultimately be avoided by Liverpool.
