Celtic’s UEFA Champions League campaign is over and while they have European football to look forward to after Christmas, their last group stage match didn’t exactly go to plan.
The match against Anderlecht was a chance for Brendan Rodgers’ side to prove they have what it takes to make an impact in the knockout stages of the Europa League, but the Belgians impressed with a 1-0 victory, much to the frustration of Celtic supporters.
Three seasons have now passed without a home victory in the group stage of a European competition, a record that goes against the reputation that Celtic Park once had as a fortress at that level.
In the context of the group, Tuesday night’s match mattered little but it was still an under-par performance, leaving fans looking for more.
One player that did impress was Olivier Ntcham, who came on at half-time for the unimpressive Stuart Armstrong.
The French U21 international was the Hoops’ best player in the second half, his range of passing and composed midfield play one of the few positives from the night.
Supporters are now calling for him to get an extended run in the team and took to Twitter to share their thoughts…
