West Ham United announced on their official club website on Thursday morning that they have suspended director of player recruitment Tony Henry pending an investigation, after the Daily Mail reported he had sparked a racism row during the transfer window, and Irons fans have been quick to have their say on the news.
The Daily Mail reported that Henry had said that the east London outfit didn’t want to sign any African players during January because ‘they cause mayhem’.
The Hammers hierarchy have taken swift action and reiterated in a club statement that they “will not tolerate any type of discrimination”, but the London Stadium faithful can’t help but feel that the story may have been leaked to the press as a deflection away from their poor January window, which only saw them sign Joao Mario and Jordan Hugill.
West Ham supporters took to social media to give their thoughts on the story, and while one said “how convenient”, another said “typical Sullivan switching the attention away from his terrible transfer business”.
